I read an article in the Austin-American Statesman today about a Round Rock public school superintendent who will be receiving a bonus if his district achieves a high ranking on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, more commonly known by its acronym, TAKS, a benchmark test administered to students in all public schools.
The article discusses what a fantastic and rare incentive this is for the Round Rock superintendent but, I believe, entirely fails to discuss any possible consequences of having a superintendent who, because of this monetary incentive, will likely put more pressure on teachers and principals.
Many public school teachers are already frazzled by the “teach to the test” curriculum that
The article, however, does note that in
To me, the article did not display an accurate assessment of the issues concerning attaching a supernatant bonus for high TAKS scores; rather it came across as an empty glorification.

Your blog is very nice & written well, however, I find your photograph offensive & inappropriate for a student's political blog...better suited for say, MySpace. I hope you'll accept this as constructive criticism from someone who has children your age!
I agree with you on this issue, teachers in public schools now teach for TAKS unless you are in AP courses. Fortunatley for me my aunt came up with a way to teach around the TAKS test and still help with SAT's and ACT's so i know all about this issue. She's actually a pretty common name in the education industry and now works for Bill Gates as his educational consultant and she says that since the state has put so much pressure on the schoools now the teachers(mostly in regular classes) have to teach for the TAKS test, in which doesn't help our kids out because SAT scores are dropping and its harder for kids to stay in school, but I like your blog and I think its a very important issue, and I dont think your picture is inappropriate or offensive, and no i'm not just saying that because i'm a guy
